GOALs:
Our Duke University research team currently seeks to answer 6 main questions, through funding from Duke Bass Connections:
- What is the pattern of mercury in deposition (precipitation and dry deposition) near artisanal gold mining?
- What is the pattern of mercury in river water and sediment along the Madre de Dios River?
- To what extent does mercury from artisanal gold mining enter crops and fish?
- Is there a relationship between mercury and anemia in people?
- What is the framework for the Peruvian National Action Plan on Mercury?
- What is the relationship between artisanal gold mining, sediment loading, and biodiversity?
